Round Australia at Wombat's pace - 26.500Km in one year

Beginning in Sydney, this journey in an old former Bakery delivery van took me along the South Coast, up the West Coast round the Top and southwards back towards Sydney. I can count the hurried hours on one hand, but that's the way it was supposed to be. ;)

Emirates gave me an impression of Dubai with a free stopover. Impressive, but 2 days were enough. This city doesn't have much to offer apart from money, money and Indian slaves living like rats. Long live capitalism! :/

Sunrise over Central Australia.

The serpentines of the Great Ocean Road along the Coast of Victoria get the brake disks of an old van red hot.
There is sufficient beach to chill though. That Bluering-Octopus down there is beautiful but deadly.

The legendary redback. Mostly found under rocks and logs but also in and around public toilets because of the insects.

Aidelaide or "The city of churches"

One species of Nephila, or a "Golden silk orb-weaver". Not deadly for a change.

Which I can't say for sure of this guy. Would be hard to determine.

Before cooking . . . and after:

A brown snake

A telegraph station and the first way to communicate between Eastern and Western Australia

My first roadkilled kangeroo. A big red near Perth. Got run over in the opposite direction of a 2-lane road and I had to drag that fat bastard off the overtaking lane in dense traffic. Damaged a couple of cars, but nobody bothered to get him off the road. Tasty!

Perth, a beautiful city. And Fremantle has Little Creatures - The best beer in the Southern Hemisphere at least!

Tourist attracion, the Pinnacles: Sandstone columns sticking out from the soil. They charge tourists for driving through a wee bit of desert so I just walked around a bit.

This one didn't have much meat on him left and to this day I haven't tried Emu.

The one mile jetty in Carnarvon. Nobody bothered walking all the way that day so I don't have any witnesses of that huge fish I caught there but couldn't bring in. In Carnarvon, a few indigenous kids promised to teach me how to catch a shark the day before. Back then I wasn't that well informed about shark finning. We only caught baby barracudas anyway.

One great source of inspiration are the adventures of this guy and his partner i met at the Ningaloo Reef in WA. Calls himself a leisure professional. ;) His blog and books are worth a read if you're into extreme ways of experiencing our planet. Just see ronin-doc.de.

Karratha - met a guy from New Guinea with his family that evening. Great people. Invited me to sleep at their place if the ra(n)gers bothered me too much.

Blue Swimmers and a Mudcrab. Delicious seafood just as good as lobster apart from the meat accessibility. ;)

A couple of bulls decided to fight for their territory or whatever on our campground. Never turned my back on that fella for more than 30 seconds while fishing!

Cockies working hard for their food. The noisiest bird on Earth???

Port Hedland

Olive python

"The races" in Broome

Spinifex - imagine Pioneers having walked their shoes to pieces and being forced to keep walking bare-footed for another 1.000Km.

The fruit of the boab tree. Bushtucker that actually tastes good and has lots of Vitamin C.

Photo opportunity at a controlled bushfire. The showguy: Nils - a friend and travel-companion for a few thousand ks.

A red gum flower.

Drunk hunters use this container for practising their aim.

Sick Koala on his way to the doctor. Nils nearly got himself killed trying to capture him. They are NOT what they seem to be! More like the most dangerous animal of the bloody continent. Especially when blind. Notice the red inflamed eyes!
